Provocked
Le nouveau film de Aishwarya Rai qui sortira en 2006 s'appelle Provoked. Ce film parle de l'histoire d'une femme indienne, Kiranjit Ahluwalia, qui tua son mari qui abusait d'elle et la battait. Cette jeune femme qui rêvait d'aller à Londres, épousa un "indien-moyen" de là-bas. Malheureusement ce qui devait s'avérer être une vie de rêve devint un vrai cauchemard. Son mari la battait, la violait, la torturait, et ce pendant 10 ans, jusqu'au jour où elle décida de de lui bruler les pieds pour qu'il ne puisse plus lui courrir après, la battre et lui "casser les jambes" comme il le lui avait promis. Malheureusement alors qu'elle allait mettre son plan à éxécution, son mari se réveilla. Elle pris peur et jeta le bâton de feu sur lui. Il décèda de ses blessures quelquse jours plus tard. Elle fut alors poursuivit pour meurtre. Son procès fut très suivit par la presse britanique. Des association vinrent à l'aide de Kiranjit et finalement elle gagna son procès.

Ce film très sérieux, change des habituels films de Bollywood que fait Aishwarya, mais ce n'est pas son premier films d'auteur, loin de là. Le casting comprendra aussi Naveen Andrews (Balraj dans "Coup de foudre à Bollywood" et Sahid dans la série "LOST"), Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid dans les films Harry Potter) et Nandita Das (l'actrice indienne membre du Jury du festival de Cannes 2005) entre autres.

Voici de que dit Aish à propos de son rôle :
" La violence domestique est un acte si sérieux et offensif que je n'ai pas eu un moment d'hésitation pour accepter le rôle. Je n'ai jamais joué une femme qui ait été abusée si brutalement... physiquement et mentalement. Après le tournage, j'ai rencontré Kiranjit Ahluwalia. Je l'ai prise dans mes bras... c'est vraiment une survivante".
